| CHARTER of ISSMO WG on Topology Optimization (WGTO) |

| |
1. OBJECTIVE. The objectives of WGTO are |
| |
|
- to stimulate and promote collaboration in research into topology optimization in solid and fluid mechanics via internet, personal discussions at conferences or by visiting other members of the WGTO;
- to explore new areas for basic research, including adoption of methods already introduced in other fields;
- to encourage applications of topology optimization by the industry and to maintain a close liaison with practical users of this discipline;
- to disseminate knowledge about the latest developments in topology optimization, including possible organization of workshops and
- to complete benchmark examples for checking on methods of topology optimization.

2. MEMBERSHIP. Any member of ISSMO who is engaged in research or applications of topology optimization may become a member of WGTO. |

3. ORGANIZATION. |
| |
|
Chairman (alternative: Coordinator). Functions: to conduct meetings, to make interim decisions between meetings and to conduct voting on important issues.
Co-Chairman (alternative: Sub-coordinator). Functions: to carry out the Chairman's functions when latter is absent or temporarily excused at his/her own wish.
Secretary. Functions: to carry out day-to-day communication with members and other interested parties.
Industrial Liason Officer. Functions: to maintain a flow of information between WGTO and manufacturing/software industries.
Benchmark Administrator. Functions: to store and disseminate benchmark examples for topology optimization.
Remarks. The above are NOT merely honorary titles. All organizational functionals are expected to carry out dedicated and regular work for WGTO.

4. MEETINGS. WGTO is to have a meeting during ISSMO congresses and joint ISSMO conferences that are attended by a significant proportion of WGTO members.
